New order for Metro Trains Melbourne

Dellner received in the past order from CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles to design, manufacture & assemble three different types of Dellner couplers for the High-Capacity Metro Train (HCMT). The project coupler scope includes multiple Automatic Couplers, Semi-permanent Couplers & Emergency Couplers.

The HCMT trains are based on an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Type-A design manufactured by CRRC Corporation Limited & Downer EDI Ltd.
The trains will initially have seven carriages with a provision to extend it to ten.

The first trainsets were delivered in 2020 and are used by the operator Metro Trains Melbourne on the Melbourne rail network, running on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines. As the delivery continues, this fleet will become the primary rolling stock used after the Metro Tunnel’s opening scheduled for 2025, operating in Sunbury, and the plan is to serve the Airport lines from 2029.

The couplers for this project have been assembled locally at our Dellner Australia workshop in New Gisborne, Melbourne.

Dellner Australia looks forward to providing our customers with further local support with the maintenance and overhaul of the coupler systems in 2031!
